The Alaska Association of Environmental Professionals (AAEP) began awarding $1,000 scholarships in 1995 to support Alaskan scholars in the fields of environmental science, engineering, and environmental policy.  Through 2009, AAEP has awarded $27,000 in scholarships since we began these awards.  Our scholarship program has expanded over the years and now includes awards to students attending Alaska Pacific University (APU), University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), and/or the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS).  Contact the school’s Financial Aid Office for information on how to apply for the AAEP scholarship for Fall 2010. 

2009 RECIPIENT:

Our scholarship award winner in 2009 is the 8th recipient at UAA since 1998.  He is:

Mr. Keith Schneider (UAA)

Keith is a senior at UAA pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree with a dual major in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Keith arrived in Alaska in 1995. He then served a six-year tour in the United States Army where he was involved in electronics and mechanical technology. Upon completion of his tour, he returned to Alaska to complete his college degree that he had started 10 years earlier. Keith plans to graduate in the spring of 2010 and hopes to remain in Alaska and apply his education to "...the preservation and development of Alaska's future."

2008 RECIPIENT:

Our scholarship award winner in 2008 is the 10th recipient at APU since 1995.  She is:

Ms. Lindsey Saxon Kendall (APU)

Lindsey is a graduate student pursuing a Master’s of Science degree in Environmental Science/Marine Biology at APU.  Lindsey’s thesis topic is “Passive acoustic monitoring of the Cook Inlet beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas)  in lower Knik Arm, Cook Inlet, Alaska.”  Lindsey is a life-long Alaskan, attended high school in Anchorage, and graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Biology/Zoology.  In addition to currently being a Graduate Research Assistant at APU, Lindsey is also employed as an Environmental Scientist at HDR Alaska, Inc. in Anchorage.

Our scholarship award winner in 2007 was the 8th recipient at UAF since 2000.  She is:

Ms. Jessica Guritz (UAF)

Jessica is an undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management with a concentration in Forest Sciences.  Jessica is a life-long Alaskan and graduated from West Valley High School in Fairbanks.  After graduation from UAF in December 2008, she hopes to gain some real world experience through jobs and internships and then continue on to graduate school.
